Go see any literary event and write a 1-2 page journal reflection on it. Turn it in for 15 points extra credit on a quiz grade. Almost any literary or cultural event will count: a play (school, local, professional), a musical, a poetry reading (Billy Collins is speaking at Emory soon), a poetry slam, a book festival, etc. If you’re not sure or have questions, ask me!

Choose a meaningful quote that you like from a text we read. Create a piece of art that represents the text in some way and features this quote. Show it to me, then find a way to attach it securely in the classroom. I will show you a place to put it – it is your responsibility to figure out a way to securely attach it such that it stays up all year. If you do a good job and the art is interesting, insightful, and visually appealing, you can earn up to five points on the test or project grade from the unit the quote represents.
